Leaders Celebrate Grand Opening of First LGBTQ-affirming Senior Housing In Hyde Park

The grand opening of The Pryde, the first LGBTQ-affirming, income-restricted senior housing in Massachusetts, was celebrated on June 2. Located in Hyde Park, the event included public officials like Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D), MA Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, U.S. Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (D), U.S. Dept. of Housing & Urban Development Assistant Deputy Secretary Michele Perez, MA Dept. of Housing & Community Development Undersecretary Jennifer Maddox, MA State Representative Rob Consalvo, Boston City Councilors Ricardo Arroyo, Ruthzee Louijeune and Julia Mejia, Pennrose LLC President Timothy Henkel, Hyde Park businesswoman Pat Tierney.

More than 100 people attended the opening.

The Pryde is located in the historic William Barton Rogers Middle School, which has been transformed into a 74 income-restricted rental home community for LGBTQ people 62 an older.

Mayor Wu said at the opening, "Making Boston a home for everyone means ensuring that residents can live in the City they love with safe, affordable housing that is welcoming to all,"

Senator Warren added, "Republicans tried their very best to slash funding for this project, but we fought back and secured this powerfully important investment,"

Amenities at The Pryde include barrier-free apartments, community meals, art classes, and spaces for social and educational activities.
