Demand surgery “as promptly as possible.”
Lawyers for Michelle Kosilek filed a motion yesterday in U.S. District Court asking Judge Mark L. Wolf for a status conference with the correction department “as soon as possible” and a schedule for the surgery “as promptly as possible.”
A federal appeals court upheld a judge’s ruling granting a taxpayer-funded sex change operation for Kosilek, who is a transgender inmate serving a life sentence for a murder conviction for the killing of wife Cheryl McCaul, in 1990.
Kosilek’s lawyers say the Department of Correction (DOC) is not scheduling the surgery swiftly enough. It’s been nearly a year since the DOC said it would provide an out-of-state surgeon to perform the surgery.
