Three Strange Women heard on UNregular Radio

Three Strange Women is a 100% uncensored LGBT radio show hosted, produced, & created by Jackie Soriano. We are UNregular Radio’s (www.unregularradio.com) premier LGBT/Queer program, and are currently the only on air content geared specifically towards the community. We can be heard every Monday from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. on UNregular Radio’s uncensored stream. Each week, Jackie and the strange ladies (Jeska and Georgina) discuss current issues and happenings in the community, and are often joined by other LGBT activists and/or a revolving cast of UNregular’s from around the studio.

On Monday July 2nd, we celebrated our one year anniversary of our first live broadcast! Our “official” anniversary date is July 4th, which unfortunately did not fall on a Monday this year.

One thing we all know is that the gays know how to party, and that is exactly what we did!

Our one year celebration was rightfully called Memoirs Of A Gay Show and it was an incredible success. The most exciting and aesthetically pleasing part of the celebration was our bad-ass 6 layer rainbow cake and rainbow fruit skewers (we made sure to include a healthy alternative to accommodate Jackie’s diabetes and to generally offset the unhealthy amounts of sugar!). Jeska and Jackie baked the cake the evening before the show, and Jeska stayed up all night decorating it until it was perfect! It consisted of 6 layers (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple) with frosting in between. It was covered in white frosting with M&M’s arranged in the shape of a rainbow on the top, and a side covered completely in gummy bears! The fruit skewers were arranged by fruit color and consisted of strawberries, cantaloupe, pineapple, kiwi, blueberries, and grapes.

To celebrate, we extended an open invitation to all of our friends and supporters of Three Strange Women and ended up with a studio full of 15 people!

We ran this show a little differently than normal. Instead of our usual outline of talking and music, we decided to change things up a bit. For the one year episode, we compiled some of the best moments of Three Strange Women to date. There were so many awesome moments that it was hard to pick only enough to fit in one hour. Some of the all time favorite moments were the interview with Adam Bouska and Jeff Parshley of the NO H8 Campaign, Matt Zappa’s reflections on Boston’s Pride Week, our discussion with the ladies from UNregular Radio’s Beats, Rhymes & Life, our segment with Sue O’Connell about One In Ten—the groundbreaking queer radio show, the interview with Jincey Lumpkin about using the term “gay guilt”, and the number one moment of all was our segment with Sue and Carmelita as they reflected on their early days in radio back in college!

Putting this show together and reliving all of these experiences showed us just how special what we do really is. We’re eternally grateful to have the opportunity to be a positive voice in the LGBT community and will continue to do so indefinitely! Without the support of our friends and family in the community, we wouldn’t be anything at all. You are what makes us special. Be yourself, and stay STRANGE!
