In 2013, the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus connected much more deeply with the region’s arts community. We performed in the inaugural Outside the Box festival before 4,000 people on Boston Common. And we were an active member of MASSCreative’s Create the Vote Coalition, which raised the issues of arts and culture in the Boston mayoral election.
Last year, we also connected more deeply with the LGBT community by performing school concerts at the invitation of local Gay Straight Student Alliance groups. The culmination of this work saw 67 students from Wellesley High School join us on stage at our “Seize the Day” concerts March 23 and 24, bringing our Outreach Program alive in our home theatre.
In 2014 we will continue this work with the New England premiere of Alexander’s House March 14 during our spring concert, “Sons and Daughters,” which will be an exploration of our community’s diverse families. In May, we will mark the 10th anniversary of the first legal marriages of same-sex couples in the United States by releasing a video about our participation in the marriage equality movement. In June, we will hold our annual Pride concert! To get a taste of what’s to come, check out “Standing Together,” a video about the music we create with chorus members from every corner of our community!
